Nicola & Darren, Wroxall Abbey Estate, Warwickshire, 26th June

The splendid Wroxall Abbey Estate is comprised of the larger mansion – where we’ve worked several times in the past – and the smaller and more intimate Wroxall Court.  Ideal for slightly smaller weddings, Wroxall Court is still within a stone’s throw of Wren’s Chapel, where Nicola and Darren tied the knot on Saturday 26th June.

This was a hot day, or more accurately – hot and humid.  ‘Muggy’ I think is the word.   But thankfully, there was a small amount of cloud to take the sting out of the sunlight. This certainly made the photography a little easier than a cloudless sky, but the heat and closeness was a bit much at times.

With all the morning preparations happening at Wroxall Court, we met up with Nicola and ‘the girls’  around 11 and started to document the goings-on before the men were due to arrive shortly afterwards.  Whenever we cover a wedding, the morning coverage is perhaps the largest uncertainty for us.  Everyone has their own way of doing things – some people like their preparation room to be quiet and uncluttered, others would rather have lots of  friends and family around as they get ready for the biggest day of their life.  Nicola’s room at Wroxall was somewhat crowded and very warm, but everyone just got on with it while we tried not to get in the way and document the events.

We orchestrate very little in the morning.  We might grab a quick portrait or ask someone to move into better light, but on the whole we prefer just to stay in the background and quietly get the coverage people hire us for.

With everyone ready, Reverend Canon Justin Marsh began the ceremony with his usual wit and liberal dose of banter with the couple.  There were no restrictions on photography, so with Sarah at the back of the chapel and me at the front, we got on with photographing Nicola and Darren’s lively wedding ceremony.

The rest of the day was very laid-back and we had two sessions with the couple on their own for the ‘couple’ photos.  Due to the bright conditions, we did most of them in the early evening when the light was more favourable.  At one point Darren came in very handy as a human lightstand while we got photos of his new wife posing on the iron gates!  After their first dance, one of the ushers took the microphone for an impromptu vocal performance alongside the excellent musician Paul Dobie who had been playing in the background all afternoon.

It was difficult picking out just 60 images from Nicola and Darren’s set, but here they are.

The most unbelievable day. Everything and i mean everything was perfect. Everyone was very relaxed all day and with the sun shining the party continued into the early hours. Rob and Sarah were fabulous. Kept everyone chilled which wasn’t easy in the heat and made sure the photo sessions didn’t impinge on the day too much which is exactly what we wanted. What can I say about the entertainment …………………. he is the most incredible guy who made the day even more special by singing several songs with our usher ‘scorch’.

Many thanks to everyone especially Rob, Sarah and Paul Doby.

    love Mr and Mrs Dickinson
