It’s a common misconception that a bright, clear summer sky and warm weather are the ideal conditions for wedding photos. However with the sun high in the sky and no cloud to diffuse the light, it means we have our work cut out. This kind of weather – for us – means harsh shadows, huge contrasts between shadow and light and lots of squinting, which just makes our job that bit more difficult. Last Saturday was one of the hottest days of the year (so far) and with not a single cloud in the sky all day and temperatures up in the high 20′s, Mark and Jenny’s wedding day was never going be a particularly easy one to photograph.
Our day began with me dropping Sarah off with the boys while I met up with Jenny and her family at a local B&B, just outside the village of Clent, home to St Leonard’s Church where the ceremony was due to begin at 2pm. With over a hundred guests, there was simply no way the village could accommodate so many cars, so two coaches had been booked to ferry everyone in. This seemed a great idea until one of the coaches ended up at the wrong church! But, after a few frantic phone calls by the best man Stuart, everyone arrived at the right place and Mark and Jenny’s wedding began.
After the service (and an impromptu receiving line outside), everyone made their way over to Kings Norton Golf Club – just over Birmingham/Worcestershire border – for the reception. However this journey was not without incident as one of the Rolls Royces broke down on the M42! However everything was sorted within a short space of time and the cars arrived at the golf club without too much delay.
As we went into the evening, the heat waned and it became a bit more comfortable to work in. The evening light was nothing short of glorious and Mark and Jenny themselves were a joy to work with, always up for “just a few more photos” and almost constantly laughing with each other.
A big thank you again to Mark and Jenny for looking after us last Saturday and for ensuring there was enough time for all the work we needed to do. Although we did have to work extra-hard due to the heat and light, they made sure we were fed and watered and that things ran as smoothly as possible.
As usual we have a few ‘sneek peek’ pictures here. The full set will be made available once the couple return from honeymoon and have received their presentation.

Wow. It was so nice to come back from our honeymoon to these amazing pictures of the big day. Thank you so much Rob and Sarah, you did a fantastic job – the pictures have come out beautifully and we’ve had lots of compliments on them already! We’re really grateful for your relaxing influence during the day – we had such a fun time and were really impressed with how seamless you made everything – we felt like we had loads of time to talk to our friends as well as getting all the photographs we wanted.
Thanks again – can’t wait to see the full set of photos! We’ll definitely be recommending you to our friends in the future.
